Lynnie 's journey
Our Covid experience. On Friday, our little one, Cameron, was sent home from school with a 'persistant cough' Luckily he seemed fine and was laughing and playing as usual, but, of course, we had to get him a test. It took us a few hours on the website, but finally, we saw some tests had opened up in Bishop Auckland - drive through tests at the Football Club. As we drove up, covid-proof young people in full PPE directed us to a parking place, instructing us to keep our masks on and keep our windows up. After a few minutes someone approached the car with a package which we recieved through a slightly open window.
The instructions were clear. The most difficult part was trying to take a nose swab from a screaming, frightened, three year old. The staff told us not to bother with a throat swab. I'm glad they did. The nose swab was bad enough. We had to twirl it around for fifteen second in both nostrils, and all while he was fighting to get away.
Finally it was done and the sealed package passed into the waiting box The next afternoon, just 25 hours after the test, we had the result, by text and by email - he was fine - no virus. All-in-all it was an efficient and effective process. He's back to school on Monday.
